Couchettes are an interesting apparatus. About 6 feet long and 2 feet wide, they are designed to hold a human being, asleep, for a 9 hour train ride….Comfortable? I think not….But for some reason (exhaustion) I slept quite nice…

Arriving in Rome Sunday morning I met Brett at Hostel Allessandro, right behind the train station and grabbed some breakfast. After shaving for the first time in 7 days and showering for the first time in 4, I immediately passed out in my lovely bed…

Once getting up, we headed off for our self-guided walking tour of Rome. In the first day we saw the Trevi Fountain, Coliseum (from the outside)….As well as the Vittrona E Piazza Venezia (war memorial and Tomb of Unknown Soldier). We also enjoyed a fancy 4 star Italian dinner, which we all rated at 2 stars….But it was fun enjoying quality Italian food.

The next day after breakfast we headed to the country of Vatican City and after being instilled with fear of 2.5 hour waits, we only waited 45 minutes to get in to the Museo Vaticani and Sistine Chapel. We spent a few hours inside before entering the silence only Sistine Chapel….People were certainly talking. A fantastic chapel design was exactly as it has been described by others….Fabulous

From the Vatican we left Rome and headed off on our train to Firenze (Florence) where I am writing from now. After finding our name-changing hostel….It somehow became a hotel overnight… I took my first non-hot shower in Europe and we headed out into the city. We found a very excellent night club called Central Park…But Tuesdays are its dead nights….So we were 3 of 15 people there…Oh well, we might go back tonight…We shall see

Today, after checking out of hostel at 8 am we struggled to find a hostel to sleep in tonight. Sending Brett and Andrew off to the Museee d-Academie(home of David), I went to the hostel to make reservations. They unexpectedly waited only 30 minutes to get in….So I didn’t go in with them. After waiting 1.5 hours I finally got into the museum and was awestruck by the 16 foot high David standing in front of me…Now my good friend Brett couldn’t take his eyes away for over an hour, so I found them inside (interesting choice of object to stare at, but hey it is the most amazing sculpture ever)… We spent another half hour there and then headed off to get our luggage and bring it to our new hostel…A bottle of wine, some bread cheese and sausage are calling my name now…So I must go…

Tomorrow I am off to Interlaken Switzerland for some extreme adventure fun. Be prepared for some fabulous video and pictures from that!!!

New photos are being uploaded as we speak!
